Ash/Ghost
Series of improvisational eurorack albums.
2025
Ash/Ghost is a series of interconnected albums developed through extended improvisations shaped by physiological processes. Recorded over six consecutive days, the works emerge from sustained performance situations in which internal bodily states subtly influence the unfolding musical environment.
Rather than treating physiological signals as compositional control mechanisms, the recordings approach them as unstable temporal companions. Fluctuations in attention, mental presence, and bodily rhythm introduce gentle deviations in texture and pacing, allowing sound to evolve through responsiveness rather than intention. Improvisation becomes a form of attentive listening in which performer and system coexist within a shared duration.
All recordings were captured directly to cassette tape, preserving the fragility and immediacy of each session. The resulting sound carries traces of memory, erosion, and repetition, emphasizing process over resolution. Across the series, Ash/Ghost reflects an ongoing interest in how internal experience might surface indirectly within musical form, appearing not as representation but as atmosphere.
The visual artwork extends an earlier collaborative project with Kaylee SooHyun Lee, in which a single image was gradually divided into multiple fragments, mirroring the musical process of dispersion and transformation across the albums.
