Spectral Counterpoint
Live performance incorporating remote audience physiological signals.
2023
Spectral Counterpoint is a live electronic performance shaped by the physiological rhythms of audiences located in multiple cities. During the performance, participants wore sensing devices that transmitted subtle bodily signals, which influenced the evolving musical environment in real time.
Rather than synchronizing these signals into a unified tempo, the work allowed distinct physiological patterns to coexist. Divergence and alignment emerged unpredictably across distance, forming a dispersed temporal field that resisted central control. Musical structure unfolded through this layered interaction between remote bodies and live electronic sound.
The performance explored how shared time might extend beyond physical proximity. By allowing geographically separated participants to quietly inhabit the same sonic duration, Spectral Counterpoint examined embodiment not as an isolated condition, but as a distributed and relational experience.
